Southwest Michigan Health Information Management Association (SWMHIMA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving health information professionals throughout the southwest Michigan and its surrounding areas. They are committed to creating and utilizing systems and standards for quality healthcare information, along with investigating and applying new technology in the management of health information.
These healthcare professionals are employed at a variety of healthcare settings, such as, hospitals, clinics, physicians offices, nursing homes, mental care facilities, insurance companies, healthcare maintenance organizations (HMOs), consulting firms and vendor associations.
OBJECTIVES - Plan four educational programs a year.
- Provide the educational programs at a reasonable cost and within the association's budget.
- Provide a minimum of 16 C.E. credits per year.
- Annually increase the number of members by 5%.
- Provide timely communication on upcoming meetings, critical issues and the promotion of networking among the members.

Mary K. Edgerly- Gillespie
(September 25, 1954 - July 24, 2008)
Mary K. Edgerly-Gillespie, age 53, of Morley passed away Thursday, July 24, 2008 at her home. She was born September 25, 1954.
Mary married David A. Gillespie on December 31, 2002 in Morley. She received her Masters Degree from Ferris State University. Mary has been employed as a teacher at Ferris State University since 1986. She was the Program Director for Southwest Health Information Management Association 2007/2008, and affiliated with AHIMA and MHIMA.
A scholarship fund will be set up in Mary’s name at Ferris State University.
We will miss you, Mary!
